Every month we literally put one of our employees under the spotlight and ask them a series of professional, and personal, questions. This month, it's Paula Rose.
How old are you?
What's your professional background?
I have a degree in Accounting & Information Systems and studied at Sheffield Hallam University.
I worked in an accounts department of a retail company for 1 year as part of my degree. After graduating from university my first role was as a Team Leader in Financial Control at HML (another company in the Skipton Building Society Group). After two years I left to become a graduate trainee at SBF. This involved working in various areas of the business including credit control, processing, reconciliation, audit and client management.
I have worked at SBF for 5 years and have undertaken a number of studies obtaining a distinction in the Foundation, Certificate & Diploma course which are run by the Asset Based Finance Association (ABFA).
What do you do at SBF?
What are your primary responsibilities?
Managing a portfolio of 70 clients whom we provide a range of invoice finance products including Factoring, Invoice Discounting & CHOCS. The total funds that SBF have invested in my portfolio is around £8 million.
My key responsibilities are to minimise the risk to SBF keeping the funds secure whilst providing working capital and strong customer service to all clients. I monitor sales ledger performance including collections, levels of credit notes and the financial strength of the businesses.
My clients are based at various locations from Scotland to Exeter, which involves a lot of driving!
What’s the best thing about your job?
Meeting new people on a regular basis and being involved with businesses from a variety of industries.
What was your childhood ambition?
To work with horses!
What are your hobbies?
I really enjoy walking and have a very energetic Collie that keeps me busy. My weekends are spent DIYing as I’m doing up my house. I seem to be constantly filling skips, sanding and painting at the moment but I know it will be worth it in the end!
Favourite ice cream?
It's got to be the all time classic vanilla.
Not a sitcom but great entertainment, it's got to be Come Dine With Me.
You wouldn’t know it by looking at me but…
I’m getting married next year!
